Phones To Be Installed In French Prison Cells

In an attempt to improve rehabilitation rates and reduce rampant mobile phone trafficking behind bars, France plans to install landline phones in its prison cells.
The Ministry of Justice on Tuesday said it had called for bids to operate the service after a series of tests at one prison since 2016 were successful.

But it won’t be cheap for inmates to call their approved numbers at any time. A prisoner advocacy group warns that calls could cost up to 80 cents ($0.97)/minute.
